I am very happy to tell my experience from my visit to Perth, Australia.
Actually, I have three purposes why I went to Perth. First, my main reason to go there was to meet my previous students who became closed to me when they were here in NIT. We keep in touch with each other and share their life and experience in Perth. Then, I promised them that one day I’ll surprise them that I could be actually there and meet them. Secondly, I wanna visit some universities which are linked to NIT to broaden my knowledge as a teacher here about the programs that we're running in our school. I requested Lydia Liu to let me visit some universities. And lastly, to explore the beauty and wonders of Perth, Australia.
I went there by myself firstly and then met Lydia, James and KM Wong. I stayed in Perth for almost a week. Lydia had arranged everything for me before I came there. She helped me book my apartment where I must stay. The apartment she chose was so situated in the heart of Perth. It's a self-contained apartment, meaning everything I need in a house is already provided, that is so close to the King's Garden Park, CBD, Shopping centers and even to bus and train stations. The apartment even has a BBQ place where you can have a small party or get-together with your friends.
During my stay there, I had the chance to visit two major universities which we send our students, namely Curtin International College and Murdoch University. I went in these universities to visit some of my previous students and at the same time meet some of the leaders of the school who know our program here in NIT. in CIC, I met Dr. Maria Fioco, College Director and Principal; Ian James, Deputy Academic Director; Peter Zhao, Academic Adviser; Gemma Clarke, Student Experience Coodinator; Michelle Doray, Head/Director of Pretertiary-Dept. of Languages and Intercultural Education; Jamie Lynette Choo, Regional Marketing Manager; and from Murdoch, I met Ms. Suzanne Pelczar, Admission Registrar. I had a great time visiting those two universities because I had the chance to tour around the campus and occasionally meet our students there. People from the administration were so generous and accommodating.
Lydia also arranged me to have a tour around the city. I explored the beauty and spectacular scenery of Perth. I visited the Bell Tower, Swan River, Perth Mint, Barrack's Square, King's Graden Park, Fremantle, Fremantle prison, Round House, Fremantle Shipwreck Museum, Hay St. (Shopping Center), City Casinos, and a lot more. The weather there was like an autumn season in Beijing, but it's actually the winter season when I went there. It’s not as cold as the winter in Beijing. During the winter season, it rains a lot so it really makes the air so clean and fresh. It’s beautiful after the rain cuz you can see the clear blue sky and even get the chance to see the rainbow. Perth city is so close to the river so you can see a lot of seagulls and different types of birds like the parrots on the street or near the river banks. Living in Perth is so convenient cuz it's not a crowded city, there are less people walking on the street and even the buses aren't crowded. Traffic is also convenient. The taxi is everywhere but you need to call a taxi if you want their service, give them your place of pick up and where you want to go. Unlike here in Beijing, you can get the taxi anytime and anywhere you want. The people are so friendly and approachable. They always give you a warm smile whenever you meet them. The price of the food is also cheap and you can enjoy a wide variety of different foods. Of course, don't miss out their "fish and chips".
Before I left Perth, I gathered some of the students who were available then. I organized a BBQ party in my apartment. I was so happy even though most of our students have their part-time job, they still managed to come and joined me to give me a farewell party. They helped me to buy all the necessary things we needed for the BBQ and helped me to prepare all the foods we needed to eat. We had a great time together chatting abut their lives and experiences during their stay there. After the BBQ we decided to go to Pool Bar and played together, so we wouldn't feel the sadness of parting time. The following night, at the very last night of my stay there, we went to KTV bar and enjoyed the night singing.
All in all, I really had a wonderful time visiting Perth! If given the chance, I wanna go there again and meet my beloved students and visit the people I met there.
